The Gospel

The Bible is God's inerrant Word, given to us as His instruction manual for all mankind to know Him.  Following Christ means that you understand you are a sinner and need a Savior.  You must REPENT of your sins and TRUST in Jesus Christ ALONE as your Savior.  Once you are saved, you belong to Him and have assurance of everlasting life.

Here is the Gospel broken down and supported by Bible verses (NKJV):

There is only one way to have eternal life:
John 14:6  Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me."

We all sin:
Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
1 John 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

The payment for sin is death:
Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Good works cannot save us:
Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Jesus died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead:
John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8  But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Imagine you are guilty of committing many serious crimes, and the judge sentences you to a million dollar fine or prison.  You cannot pay the fine, so the bailiff begins to take you to prison when someone you do not know appears.  He approaches the judge and hands him a check.  The judge informs you that the stranger has just paid your fine.  Now that the fine has been paid, the law no longer has any hold of you.  You are free -- because of the gift you were given.

This is what God did for you by sending Jesus to die on the cross in your place so you wouldn't have to go to Hell.  Then Jesus rose from the dead, forever defeating death!

You must be born again:
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

How are you born again?

1.  Turn away from your sins (repent):
Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...

2.  Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation:
Acts 16:31  "Believe on (trust in) the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved..."

Imagine you are in a plane that is going to crash, and the pilot hands you a parachute.  If you put it on before you jump out of the plane, it will save your life.  You know it can save your life, but it is not enough to believe it; you must "put it on" and trust in its ability to save your life.  That is the same way Christians believe on (or trust in) the Lord Jesus.  We trust His work on the cross is sufficient enough to save us.

Pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins and to change your heart that you may receive Christ to be your Savior.  Do not wait to do this because life is short, and you do not want to die without Jesus.

What do you do next?

1. Read your Bible everyday.

2. Pray everyday.

3. Find a Bible-teaching church.

4. Worship and have fellowship with other believers.

5. Be baptized:

6. Share the good news of Christ with others.

  2. I love this. I am blessed to be part of a wonderful church, a supportive small group, and a strong Sunday School class. Yesterday I attended my first Community Bible Study group. We are studying I and II Thessalonians on Sunday and I and II Corinthians at CBS. Our church has a very powerful prayer ministry and we have a group who knit or crochet prayer shawls. Every stitch is prayed over and each shawl is annointed. Last year my husband and I received shawls when our daughter was murdered. It was amazing to be enveloped in the warmth of God's love, Jim doesn't sleep well in the best of times but after being prayed over he was able to sleep secure that Lisa was in the arms of God.

    1. Janet,
I am really saddened to hear about your daughter, but grateful to hear that you have a Christian family to pray for you and your husband. Prayer is essential in healing, wisdom, and faith. Everyone needs prayer and God's word because we are lost in this world without them.
